"Off-The-Beaten-Track" 4X4
Sugar Plantation Tour
|
Come explore beyond the shore, the Legacy of Sugar Cane Cultivation on beautiful St. Kitts. While using specially modified 4X4 Land Rovers, we will take you "off the beaten track" and through the lush mountainous interior of our island home returning to our starting point, from along the opposite coast road, and in the process, touring about a half of St. Kitts, from top to bottom.
Along the way, and in the foothills of the Basseterre Valley, we will stop at two private, former sugar plantations, for an intriguing look at a by-gone era. While touring the private plantation homes here and the beautiful gardens that surround them, you will be given insightful information into what life was like on a sugar plantation, the growing of the sugar cane plant and how crystallized sugar was made from it. |
The tour then continues through the rainforests to a private mountain top property, where, from 1100 feet above sea level, you can enjoy panoramic views down over our island home as well as a delicious Kittitian Picnic in the cool shade of a giant Flamboyant Tree there.

While driving through the lush and cool Rainforests of our interior mountains, the islands richest reservoir of biodiversity, you may catch glimpses of green monkeys, fleeting hummingbirds, shy mongoose and much more of our exotic island wildlife.
Following our drive through the mountains and after arriving on the opposite coast, leaving the rainforest and its dirt roads behind, your final stop will be at the beautiful, St. Mary’s Anglican Church. This small, volcanic stone church, built over 200 years ago, is perched on a lofty ridge that offers spectacular views of a surrounding countryside, of old sugar plantations. Its' Vicar in the late 18th century was the famous Slave Abolitionist, James Ramsey, who was said to have been the inspiration for the song Amazing Grace. |
Following our stop here we then continue back to our starting point by traveling along the windswept and beautiful Atlantic coast road, never to repeat the route used on the way out.
